Italy Study Visa from Pakistan 2027: Documents, Bank Statement & Appointment Guide

italy study visa guide 2027

Applying for an Italy study visa from Pakistan is the last big step between your admission letter and your first lecture in Italy. It is also where many students lose a year. A missing apostille, a bank statement that does not show regular funds, or a late appointment can all lead to a refusal.

This guide explains the 2027–28 process for Pakistani students step by step: who can apply, the full document checklist, the new bank statement requirement, fees, and how to book your appointment. It is based on the official checklist of the Embassy of Italy in Islamabad.

Who can apply at the Embassy in Islamabad?

You can apply only if you permanently live within the Embassy’s consular jurisdiction. You prove this with a residence certificate and a copy of your CNIC. If you live in the area covered by the Consulate General in Karachi, apply there instead. Check the official websites to confirm which office covers your city.

Most importantly, you must first have an admission letter and a Universitaly pre-enrolment that your university has validated without reservation. If you have not done this yet, follow our Universitaly pre-enrolment guide. Still choosing a master’s? Start with our MS in Italy for Pakistani students guide.

Living in Saudi Arabia, the UAE or another Gulf country? You apply at the Italian office where you hold residence, not in Islamabad. See our Gulf residents guide.

Bank statement for an Italy study visa: the new €10,179.85 rule

For the 2026–27 and 2027–28 academic years, the official procedures require students to show at least €10,179.85 per year for their stay. This is a big increase on the roughly €6,000 that students used to plan for, so check your family budget early.

What the Embassy looks for

  • Regular funds, not a one-time deposit. The Embassy assesses whether money is regularly available each month throughout your course, not just the balance on the day you apply. A large deposit made just before your appointment is a red flag.
  • Funds in an account in your name, or support from a family sponsor documented with an affidavit.
  • A sponsor affidavit stating the resources, where they come from, how long the support lasts and the amount. It must be apostilled and translated into Italian. If the sponsor lives outside Pakistan, it must be legalised by the Italian embassy or consulate there.
  • Scholarships from reputable Italian institutions, such as a DSU award, or from foreign bodies the Embassy considers reliable, can count towards your funds.

What is not accepted

  • Cash
  • Guarantees from people outside your family unit
  • Bank guarantees or surety bonds

Planning to apply for the DSU scholarship as well? Your visa funds and your DSU documents both depend on family income papers, so prepare them together. Read our DSU scholarship guide.

Apostille, translation and the 6-month rule

  • Documents issued by Pakistani authorities need an Apostille
  • Documents must be in English or come with an Italian translation. Translations must be notarised, and the notary’s signature apostilled
  • Documents are generally valid for six months from their issue date, so time your FRC, bank statements and certificates carefully

How to book your Italy visa appointment in Pakistan

  1. Wait for validation. According to the Embassy, study visa applicants must first complete Universitaly pre-enrolment. Once your university validates it, the BLS centre contacts you to schedule your appointment.
  2. Check the official channel. Visit the official BLS Italy visa website named by the Embassy for the current booking process, center addresses and checklist.
  3. Use Islamabad or Lahore. The Multan and Faisalabad centres closed on 6 September 2026, so appointments are now only available in Islamabad and Lahore. Summer is the busiest period, so act as soon as you are contacted.
  4. Prepare your file in the checklist order, with originals and one set of photocopies.
  5. Attend in person with cash for the fees in Pakistani rupees, and give your biometrics.
  6. Track your application. There is no fixed processing time, so do not buy a non-refundable ticket until your visa is issued.

Common reasons for Italy study visa refusal

  • Universitaly pre-enrolment not validated, or validated with reservations
  • Bank statements showing a sudden large deposit instead of regular funds
  • Funds below €10,179.85 per year, or sponsor documents missing
  • Documents older than six months, or missing apostilles and translations
  • English certificate not showing B2 in all four skills
  • A weak motivation letter that does not explain your course choice and plans
  • Applying outside your consular jurisdiction
