Italy study visa documents: the Embassy Dhaka checklist
Based on the Embassy of Italy in Dhaka’s study visa checklist (revised July 2026). Bring originals and one set of copies.
Bank balance for an Italy student visa from Bangladesh
- 12 months of history from a bank operating in Bangladesh, not a single balance certificate.
- A clear source: salary, business income, rent or land sale, with documents.
- Sponsors: parents are the safest choice. For other relatives, confirm with the Embassy first.
- No cash, and avoid large unexplained deposits just before applying.
- Keep extra money for the return trip; a return ticket can show this.
We recommend keeping at least BDT 14.5 lakh in the account, because the Embassy and VFS calculate at about BDT 140 per euro. A DSU scholarship letter helps, but you still need to show the funds. See our cost of studying in Italy guide for the full yearly budget.
English proof: why IELTS matters in Dhaka
Document legalisation: e-Apostille, DoV and CIMEA
Bangladesh joined the Hague Apostille Convention, and it has applied since 30 March 2025. Your certificates are now legalised with a single e-Apostille from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
- Apply on mygov.bd (integrated online authentication system).
- Your Education Board or university verifies the certificate.
- The Ministry of Education authenticates it.
- MoFA issues the e-Apostille with a QR code.
Then the Embassy needs to know what your qualification is worth in Italy. Choose one:
Issued by the Embassy of Italy in Dhaka through VFS’s “DOV for prospective students” service. The Embassy fee is free for study; you pay only the VFS charges.
An online statement of comparability (€300, about 60 working days; urgent €400, 30 days). Useful if your university has an agreement with CIMEA.

Is there a visa interview at the Italian Embassy in Dhaka?
The Embassy’s official checklist does not mention a mandatory interview or a language test for student visas. The Embassy can still ask for more documents or call you in. Be ready to answer these questions clearly and consistently with your file:
- Why Italy, and why this university and course?
- How does this course connect to your previous studies and your career plans?
- Who is paying for your studies, and what is their income?
- Where will you live in Italy, and what will your monthly budget be?
- What will you do after graduation? Do you plan to return to Bangladesh?
Bangladeshi students get lower fees and an easier DSU
Bangladesh is on Italy’s list of particularly poor countries (DM 176/2026). Pakistan and India are not. That means:
- Low or no tuition at many universities, for example about €161 a year in charges at Politecnico di Torino and €156 at the University of Turin.
- DSU without an ISEE parificato: instead of family income and property documents, you need a certificate from the Italian representation stating that your family is not high-income. Email the Embassy ([email protected]) to ask how it issues this. Read our DSU scholarship guide.
- The list is renewed every year, so check the 2027/28 list when it is published.
Common reasons for Italian student visa refusals in Bangladesh
- Funds without a clear source, or a short or newly opened bank account.
- Sudden large deposits just before the statement date.
- No IELTS 6.0, with the university not confirming English level on Universitaly.
- A missing DoV or CIMEA statement, or documents without an apostille.
- A weak link between your studies and the course, or long unexplained gaps.
- Fake or altered documents. The Embassy verifies documents and takes legal action against forgery.
- Applying too late, after the 31 October deadline or too close to the start of classes.
If your visa is refused, you can appeal to the Regional Administrative Court of Lazio (TAR Lazio) within 60 days, or fix the problem and apply again.
